About Me

Introduction: Hello. My name is Stefan and I am creating this blog as part of my Communication Skills 7 class.

My hobbies/pastimes: I have several hobbies, pass and things that I am interested in. One of them is flying radio control airplanes with my Dad during the summer. Right now, we have two RC planes to fly and another that we are designing right now.  The first one, my Dad and I built a few years ago. This definitely was a learning experience for me, I learnt that just about every project similar to this, even when calculated, often doesn’t turn out the way that you believe it will but if you stick with it and work at improving it, it likely will work. When we made our first attempt at flying the plane, I was afraid that it wouldn’t fly, which was a bad thing. So, I overreacted and gave the wrong control inputs and the plane crashed repeatedly. A few days later, we just did very short hops with the plane and worked at trimming it to fly correctly. About a week later, we tried again, and it flew. If I had just relaxed in the first place, everything probably would have been fine, but either way, it all worked out in the end. I’ve had a few other incidents since then, but I never got upset because I knew that the problems could be fixed. That plane is flying really well now. Our other plane was one that I received from Santa a few years ago, which we worked on building over the christmas holidays. Both planes fly well, however, the one I got from Santa, the E-flite Cessna 150, is just phenomenal. The way it takes off is as gracefull as a bird yet as powerful and straight as a rocket. My Dad and I building and flying radio control airplanes, along with the fact that I am interested in planes in general is why I used this as a topic for my Communication Skills 7 blog: I was something I enjoyed and something that I could write about in terms of not only information, but also experiences I had with it (during the summer for RC planes, winter is not so good).

Another one of my pastimes is playing with my Golden Retriever, Shadow. We got Shadow when he was just nine and a half weeks old. Back, then, he was just a little fur ball waddling along. Now, he is one and a half years old. We couldn't have hoped for a better dog. He is active, affectionate and has a beautiful brown coat (fur) that really is golden in the sunlight. I love training and running around with him in the yard. My sister, Shadow and I have something special that we all do that we actually never trained him to do: Angelina, my sister and I yell "Ready, set, go!" and we all race inside. Shadow runs the fastest but usually ends up last to the door because he takes a long-cut through the garage before reaching the door.

I will try to dig up some more recent photos of Shadow, because this one is from when he was just a few years old.

Favourite Sport: My favourite sport is skiing. Almost every year during the winter, we go to Mount Washington, BC, just outside of Comox. I like skiing so much because I really enjoy being in the snow, and mainly because love the feeling of zooming down the hill when the snow is fluffy and soft.

Places I've Been: Every couple of years, my family takes a vacation to Europe on summer vacation. Last year, we went to France and Switzerland. Here are a few photos of some of our adventures.

A photo of Trumabach Falls. This shows you just how powerful nature can be.

A photo of the area near Wengen, Switzerland. It felt so much like a little happy-land, with no cities nearby.
